Respect for animals, people and the environment!

Ethics PeauDeVache.com

What ethics?

Since the dawn of time, humans have used animal skins to dress themselves, to work and for their homes, but selling animal skins necessarily leads to questions about the ethics of the job we do. It is a sensitive subject, and at PeauDeVache.com we have since the beginning in 2006, adopted strict rules on this point.

On the one hand, because we love animals and respect them , like the majority of us.

Also because we respect men and their work around the skin. And also because all this must be done while respecting the environment.

Ethics in our business also goes beyond this, through the development of local activity, and also in the choice of packaging used, shipping methods and in reducing the carbon footprint linked to our activity.

These are all the topics that we develop below and which we hope will convince you of our greatest dedication to respecting animals, people and the environment.

Skins exclusively from the agri-food sector

Respect for the animal

The marketing of skins naturally involves talking about the origin of the skins used to make our products and also about respecting the animal throughout its life.

This is a sensitive subject and since the start of our activity in 2006 , we have decided to use only skins from the agri-food sector .

None of the skins used to make our products come from animals raised for their skins/furs.

The country of origin

We only use skins from animals raised in countries that have strong legislation regarding respect for animals (France, New Zealand, Australia, Iceland).

Tanning and respect for the environment

Respect for the environment

Respect de l'environnement

Cowhides are tanned according to European standards. The manufacturing method guarantees respect for the environment and human beings throughout the process.

As such, we do not import products manufactured outside the European Union. Only natural sheepskins are imported from New Zealand, which is the world's leading producer and whose standards comply with European Union requirements.

Icelandic sheep products are tanned using a process that complies with the REACH standard, which is a mandatory standard for industries in European Union countries that use chemicals, and which has received the ECOCERT label .

This is a mineral tanning process which uses mineral tannins (chromium salts, iron salts, zirconium salts, etc.).

The ECOCERT label has established criteria guaranteeing respect for the environment throughout the production process, respect for the consumer and the promotion of natural ingredients .

ECOCERT is one of the largest organic certification organizations in the world, responsible for product inspection in more than 80 countries.

Short supply chains for responsiveness, local employment and a minimal carbon footprint

90% of the products we sell are made in France and we strive to maintain this proportion of French products in the products we sell.

As such, our manufacturing workshop is located in France near our warehouses , mainly for 3 reasons:

  • develop local employment
  • reduce travel as much as possible and thus reduce the carbon footprint
  • guarantee quality and responsiveness by having the production teams as close as possible

Packaging of natural origin

It is also in this area that respect for the environment takes on its full dimension, particularly for the materials chosen for packaging.

To this end, we use as many products of natural origin as possible (cardboard, paper) and aim to reach 97% natural products in our packaging by the end of 2020 .

This involves finding substitute products for cushioning (replacing bubble wrap), packaging (reducing the number of plastic bags) and adhesives (replacing them with paper-based tape).

In this way, over the years, we have reduced the use of plastic products as much as possible .

Shipping packages

For the shipping of our packages, we have chosen different carriers who are committed to reducing CO² emissions, including La Poste with its Colissimo service.

The possibility of having your order delivered to a Mondial Relay collection point is also a plus in reducing the impact of delivery on the environment because it reduces the number of trips made by carriers.
